Avicenna International School as every school in Hungary commemorated the 1956 revolution of Hungary on the 22nd of October. A short introduction with projection presented the historical context of the revolution. As AIC is closely related to the Semmelweis Medical University, the school brought closer the 1956 events to the students by the testimonies of three medical student and doctor heroes of the revolution. Sándor Puskás, a medical student was the first Budapest victim of the revolution, Dr. Vera Káldor was a young doctor healing the wounded and condamned for prison while being pregnant, and Thoma Dardeli, an Albanian medical student was sentenced for long years in Albania for his involvement in the Hungarian revolution. A talented student of the school presented a special song from 1956 (’Homesickness’) as a musical conclusion of the event.
