Grade 10 Physics Science Fair

March 19, 2025

In teaching and training, practical work plays a crucial role—especially in subjects like Physics. As a Physics teacher, I find it essential to guide students through the steps of scientific investigation in real-world contexts. That’s why I organized a Science Fair for my Grade 10 students, focusing on the themes of Optics and Electricity, two key topics they are exploring this academic year.

I introduced the idea in November, starting with sessions in the computer lab to teach students how to research scientific topics effectively and select one they were passionate about. I also trained them in writing a scientific proposal for a high school-level project. Each student or pair submitted a proposal, and after careful review, 10 exciting topics were approved:

  • Floating Maglev Train
  • Magnetic Control of Light
  • Rain Sensor
  • Handmade Spectrometer
  • Periscope
  • Hologram
  • Infinity Mirror
  • Optical Illusion Using Water and a Magnet
  • Handmade Microscope
  • Fire Fan Using an Electric Motor

Students began building their devices either in pairs or individually, during the second semester. After completion, I taught them how to create scientific posters to explain their projects clearly. On March 19th, students transformed their classroom into an engaging exhibition space to welcome students and teachers from other grades. They confidently and proudly presented the science behind each project.

This Science Fair was a great success and fulfilled many educational objectives, including collaboration, research skills, creativity, and scientific communication. I am deeply grateful to Dr. President Mirza Hosseini for his support, Mr. Steve Szabó for his dedication, and Ms. Andrea Juhász, for her coordination. I sincerely hope we continue to create more opportunities for such meaningful, hands-on learning.
